Outstanding Top value
Producer note: Bertrand Chevillon called the 2013 a "complicated and stressful vintage that gave us grief all along the course of the growing season and then after all of that, gave us more grief during the harvest! I'm not sure that I've ever been so happy to get a crop out of the vineyards and into the cuverie. We picked from the 3rd of October until the 12th and the quality of the fruit really started to degrade each day. As such you really had to pick quickly so everyone was under pressure to get on with things yet be sure that they were focused on quality at all times. In all candor that's hard to do for 9 days in a row because everyone gets really tired. From a sorting perspective it was interesting because some parcels were, for the most part, extremely clean and others required a great deal of sorting. I'm sure there's a reason but I don't really know why one parcel would be clean and another damaged as we are just as diligent with all of them. Potential alcohols were between 11.2 and 12% and most wines were chaptalized about 0.5%. Yields weren't great either but at least they were a bit better than what we obtained in 2012. As to the wines, they are much, much better than I would have predicted given the growing season. I was frankly amazed because I wasn't expecting them to be excellent because during the very long malos they didn't taste all that great. But when the malos had finally concluded they seemed to really blossom and I think people are going to love them. I do in any event." Note I revisited one 2012 in bottle below. Tasting note: This is really quite pretty with its airy nose of both red and dark berries, earth and subtle underbrush hints that are more elegant than the components sound. There is an attractive vibrancy and volume to the rich and delicious flavors that possess fine depth and even better length in a package that should drink well immediately. Recommended.
