Vintages: 2015 (50%), 2014 (30%) & 2013 (20%)
Disgorgement: July 2019
Time on lees: 36 months
100% Pinot Meunier from a single, 40-year-old, south-facing vineyard in Vrigny, a commune located on the Petite Montagne de Reims (very close to Gueux, where Jérôme Prévost is based). Straight Pinot Meunier remains a rarity in Champagne and in Egly’s hands it is something unique. Low yields, old vines and ripe fruit make this one of the most intense, layered and opulent Meunier wines kicking around. In recent years, Egly has increased the reserve wine and the time on lees. This new release is stunning, layered, luscious and complex yet also mineral. Bottled without filtration. Dosage for this bottling is 2g/l.
* “The NV Brut Les Vignes de Vrigny 1er Cru is bright and chiseled, with terrific cut to balance the natural richness of the Meunier. White flowers, mint, orchard fruit and almonds add layers of complexity, but it is the wine’s energy that is especially compelling. This release spent 39 months on its lees and was disgorged in October 2016.” 92 points, Antonio Galloni, vinous.com, December 2017
* “Egly-Ouriet crafts one of Champagne’s most flattering single-vineyard Pinot Meuniers, faithfully translating every detail of the succulent depth of this grape’s enticing full golden yellow hue and its fleshy Mirabelle plum, red cherry, dried pear and grapefruit character. ” 95 points, Tyson Stelzer, The Champagne Guide 2015-2016
