The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru ‘Terroirs’ is selected from 20- to 40-year-old vines in the grand cru villages of Avize, Cramant, Oiry and Oger; the 2013 release is a blend of equal parts 2008 (25 % aged in mature oak barrels ) and 2009, with half of the earlier vintage aged in barrel. The wine spends up to 48 months on lees and dosage is limited to 5g/l. Disgorgement is carried out roughly 2 months before we collect, so this would have been disgorged circa early 2013. The last handful of bottlings (of this cuvee) from the brothers Agrapart – Pascal and Fabrice – have been little short of extraordinary. Indeed the overall quality emanating from the Agrapart cellars has seen the Domaine rise swiftly to join the likes of Egly, Selosse and Krug as a three-star rated Domaine in France’s most respected wine guide, La Revue du vin de France’s Le Guide des meilleurs vins de France. Note: Third-party reviews below refer to the 2012 blend (from the 2008 and 2007 harvests)

“A blend of equal parts 2008 and 2007, this comes exclusively from 20- to 40-year-old vines in Avize, Oger, Cramant and Oiry. Compared to the 7 Crus, this shows the extra resonance and finesse achieved in grand cru sites, with a particularly intense expression of chalk that dominates the palate. It feels vivid and incisive, focused much more on minerality than on fruit flavors, and it finishes with a graceful balance and long, subtle aromas. This clearly demonstrates the class of both its origins and its base vintage, and it’s the finest version of this cuvée that I can remember tasting.” Peter Leim, www.champagneguide.net
