Domaine François Mikulski
Meursault “Charmes” ♥
1er Cru White 750 ml
Tasted: Jun 10, 2020
Note: from Charmes Dessous, planted in 1930
Producer note: François Mikulski noted that 2018 “gave us pretty good but not really high quantities as we brought in less than we did in 2017 in red though a bit more in white. However, in no case did we make the maximum that we were entitled to. We picked from the 28th of August and the fruit was basically as clean as it could realistically be, so we did almost no sorting save for the odd bug or leaf. I vinified the reds with care as the skins were relatively thick so it would have been easy to extract a lot of tannin and potentially even too much. Even with the light vinification the wines are dense and could well resemble 2005 in terms of aging potential. With that said, the tannins seem to be a bit more pliant then those of 2005 so the reds should be approachable sooner. With respect to the whites, they possess some austerity, which is a good thing as it helps to buffer the ripeness of the vintage.” Mikulski noted that the whites were bottled in December 2019 and January 2020. Tasting note: Here there is enough reduction to push what appears to be ripe fruit to the background though it doesn’t seem as though it will persist. Otherwise the nicely vibrant and generously proportioned flavors possess a finer mouthfeel though noticeably less power on the clean, dry and youthfully austere finish that displays fine persistence. Lovely and this too is quite tightly wound.
