Domaine Sébastien Dampt
Chablis “Les Vaillons” ♥
1er Cru White 750 ml
Tasted: Oct 15, 2018
Sweet spot Outstanding
Note: mostly from 50+ year old vines in Beugnons
Producer note: Sébastien Dampt is the son of Daniel (see above) and the wines are made in the same facilities and with the same philosophies. As the scores and comments suggest, these are well-made wines and at the prices the Dampt wines generally sell for, they are first-rate bargains. Readers should know that Dampt is a member of the “no oak” school, at least for the non-négociant wines. Note that the importers for Daniel and Sébastien are not the same. (Wine House Limited, www.winesf.com, CA, and Integrity Wines, www.integritywines.com, NY, both USA; Les Vieux Garçons, www.lesvieuxgarçons.ca, QC, Canada; and John Armit Wines, www.armit.co.uk and Berry Brothers & Rudd, www.bbr.com, both UK).
Tasting note: Firm post-bottling reduction renders the nose impossible to read. Otherwise there is good richness to the tightly focused medium-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a sappy texture to the super-saline, textured and beautifully long finale. One to buy in quantity.
