Producer note: Jean-Marc Joblot who, along with his brother and daughter Juliette, directs this 14 ha domaine where the plantings are divided between 11 ha in pinot noir and 3 ha in chardonnay. Joblot described 2014 as a “vintage that for the first time in five years gave us what I consider to be normal yields, which is to say around 38 hl/ha in red and 45 hl/ha in white. We chose to begin picking on the 13th of September and in a mild change of pace, we picked the chardonnay after the pinot which is not usually the case. While there was a bit of sorting necessary in pinot, overall the fruit was really pretty clean. Potential alcohols were in the 12.2 to 12.7% range for the reds and a bit higher for the whites at 12.8 to 13.3%. As to the wines they have good underlying material and enough structure to age well but I believe that people will like them because they’re also going to be accessible young. I have to say that the wines have turned out better than how I thought that they might based on the growing season which is always better than the reverse situation!” As the scores and commentaries suggest, Joblot has once again turned in remarkable quality and almost all of these wines are worth your attention. Tasting note: This is the most elegant wine in the range in 2014 with its cool, pure and airy nose that features a variety of red berry scents and a wide range of spice and floral characters. I very much like the intensity and detail of the medium weight flavors that possess firmer yet more completely integrated tannins on the balanced, long and highly complex finish. This is really a lovely effort and worth trying to find.
