Producer note: Bruno Clair, and winemaker Philippe Brun, describe 2014 as having produced wines that are “built on their fruit. They are fresh, well-balanced and elegant, in fact they are wines of finesse and refinement. The growing season was largely in our favor though there were some hiccups in the Côte de Beaune with the hail and we had some issues with the Suzukii flies in Chambolle. All the old vines that we had made a huge difference as the thick skins they naturally produce didn’t allow the berries to be attacked. Otherwise though the season was manageable as long as you were vigilant and did what was necessary when it was necessary. We began picking on the 13th of September and harvested slowly until finishing on the 26th. The sorting requirements ranged from not much to substantial but overall it was less than usual. We chose not to push the extractions as the colors came easily and the wines were naturally concentrated so it was better in our view to let the fermentations find their own balance as it were. As to the wines they are classic burgundies but if there is one signature element, it’s the fruit.” (Becky Wasserman & Co., www.leserbet.com, Beaune, France; The Source Imports, www.thesourceimports.com, San Francisco, CA, Martin Scott Wines, www.martinscottwines.com, (NJ, CT, NY) Lake Success, NY, Fine Vines, www.finevines.com, Chicago, IL, Classified Wine & Spirits, LLC, www.classifiedwine.net, Austin, TX, Wines Unlimited, www.winesunlimited.com, New Orleans, LA, Terra Nova Wines, www.terranovawines.com, Denver, CO, Pinnacle Imports, www.pinnacle-imports.com, Kansas City, MO, C’est Vin, LLC, 703/243-3559, (DC/VA) Arlington, VA, Vineyard Road, www.vineyardroad.net, Framingham, MA, Small Potatoes Wine, www.smallpotatoeswine.com, Boise ID).
Tasting note: A pungent nose of petrol, straw, pear and citrus precedes the punchy, even racy middle weight flavors that possess a very clean, indeed almost polished mouth feel that concludes in a delicious and persistent if only moderate complex finale. This should drink well young.
